Hello Friends,
The Providence Bay Playground Project recently received a national award from the LET THEM BE KIDS foundation! This grant assists schools and communities to help purchase and install playground equipment while strengthening the community as a whole. Every dollar raised by our community will be matched dollar for dollar by Let Them Be Kids!
Please have a look at the following letter from the Providence Bay Playground Project and take a moment to consider how we can work together to help this very exciting, worthy venture.
Thank you.
Providence Bay beach Playground Project
Vision
Providence Bay is a wonderful community that draws people from all walks of life. Our vision is that this project will foster pride and ownership by working towards a common goal and legacy, thereby creating a stronger more united community, empowered to create positive change. By actively engaging newcomers and part-time residents in the project, we also see this project as a way to create new bonds, reinvigorate our spirit, and enrich our community fabric.
Project Description
  • The Need - The wooden play structure on the playground on Providence Bay beach has been showing signs of wear and tear.  Many community members have identified this as an important issue. Each summer thousands of visiting children, and hundreds of local families from Manitoulin Island, enjoy the playground and we hope to provide them with the best possible equipment!
  • A National Award - Our project has been selected as a recipient of a national award and matching grant from the LET THEM BE KIDS foundation! This grant assists schools and communities like ours to help purchase and install playground equipment while strengthening the community as a whole. Every dollar raised by our community will be matched dollar for dollar by Let Them Be Kids! Along with this prestigious award the Providence Bay/Spring Bay Lions Club and the Municipality of Central Manitoulin have received funding from LAMBAC, Hydro One and the Ride Manitoulin Bike rally, which have all donated funds towards the completion of this great project.
  • More Than A New Playground – This project will include the installation of a number of activity/fitness stations, benches and tables, the planting of trees, as well as the revitalization of the beach area.  We aim to create a social hub where all residents of Providence Bay, both long-term and short-term, can connect, resulting in a more tolerant and welcoming community. If our goal of $100,000 is reached (and matched by LTBK) this playground will be epic in proportions!
  • A Tremendous Opportunity - Our children will learn a lesson far greater than what it means to get a new playground. By modeling active volunteerism, leadership, democracy and problem-solving skills to our children the desired outcome is the creation of a generation of critical thinking, actively engaged, global citizens.
  • The Event - On Saturday April 28th, 2012, hundreds of community members, students, parents, teachers, will all join together as a team to build the new playground and undertake a number of other improvements to the outdoor play and field area, all in ONE DAY.

We are asking you to join and support us in this exciting venture and would like to THANK YOU by offering your organization or company the following incentives:
